Get ready for a huge Amazon discount day – Amazon Prime Day!
Amazon Prime Day is one huge Amazon discount day of flash sales. If you love Black Friday shopping online, you’ll love Amazon Prime Day. This event is going on this year beginning at 9 p.m. ET on July 10 and going until 3 a.m. ET on July 12.
Wondering whether or not Prime Day is as good or better than Black Friday? Check these stats:
- In 2016, 77% of Prime Day prices were better than Black Friday with 9.1% being ties.
- In 2015, 64% of Prime Day prices were better than Black Friday with 9.1% being ties.
This is a sampling of just a few hot items members purchased during Amazon Prime Day 2016:

- over 200,000 headphones
- over 24,000 Double Hammocks by Vivere
- over 23,000 iRobot Roomba 614 Vacuum Cleaning Robots
- over 14,000 Lenovo laptops
- more than 90,000 TVs
- hundreds of thousands of Kindle e-readers
How do you get in on this once a year event?
First and foremost you have to be an Amazon Prime member. You can do that right now by signing up. The cost is $10.99 per month or the better deal is $99 a year (equivalent to $8.25 a month). A new member is also offered a 30-day FREE trial when you sign up for either the monthly or the annual membership.
What to expect
Throughout this 30 hour period, anticipate new deals every 5 minutes. Amazon promises the day will feature hundreds of thousands of deals. However, not every deal is available during the entire time. Deals are launched at various times throughout this time period and are available until they’re gone. You should expect to see competitive pricing on health and beauty items, books, movies, music, collectibles and Amazon products. Look for early sales on leading up to the big event.
MY BIGGEST TIP FOR PRIME DAY: Download the Amazon App
Prime members will have up to 24 hours heads up on most deals. Some deals will go quick – so I highly recommend browsing upcoming deals and setting alerts in advance.
You’ll need the app for this. Go to “Today’s Deals,” click “Upcoming” to view all deals 24 hours before they are live, and then tap “Watch this deal.” The app will alert you when that deal is starting. That way, you get a chance to buy before your desired item is sold out.
Shop with Amazon’s Alexa
Anyone not already a Prime member can get your first year for $79 ($20 off the annual fee) when you ask Alexa to sign you up.
Voice shoppers will have early access to select Prime Day deals a full two hours before the general public beginning July 10th. Simply say, “Alexa, what are your deals?” to get a sampling of the exclusive offers voice shoppers can access. Starting today, Alexa has more than 100 exclusive deals available on Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show, Amazon Tap, Fire TV or compatible Fire tablets.
You’ll need to be a Prime member and have a default payment set up in your Amazon account to place orders.
Here are a few leaked deals that are slated to begin at 9 p.m. ET on July 10th:
- Huawei Mate9 Smartphone—Save 25% (usually $599.99)
- Amazon Basics TV wall mounts – Save anywhere from 38-50% off high-quality mounts that will support any size TV.
- Hypoallergenic, overstuffed mattress toppers – twin, full and queen sizes, save 25-34%
- NETGEAR Orbi Home WIFi System – $245.99 (Save $100)
Extra savings with your Amazon store card
Amazon Prime members can get an additional 5-10% with an Amazon store card – plus you’ll get a $40 gift card and 6-months to pay any purchase above $149 or 12-months to pay on any purchase totaling $599.
Earn cash back with Swagbucks
During the 30 hours of Prime Day, Prime members can earn 5% cash back from Swagbucks in featured categories. Be sure to check this out so you don't miss these extra savings! Plus get a $15 gift card when you sign up for Amazon Prime through Swagbucks. Bonus!! 🙂
Anyone looking for bargains is likely to see more happening than just on Amazon. Retailers participating in Black Friday in July often highlight some of the same products that they will discount later in the year. The best strategy for getting the lowest prices is to shop around.
