BTS — Should be “Back to Saving”!

money03As summer winds down, most families find they need to return to being diligent financially. The lazy summertime approach to saving, couponing, and planning ahead has cost them. Let us encourage you not to wait any longer! Don't give in to the temptation to “get back at it as soon as things settle into a fall routine”. Late August and early September is a fantastic time to buckle down again. You're already getting into “new” things and routines right now. Why not add these things as well? …

Pre-winter vehicle checks. Some repair shops run specials to get early winter-check business. Plus, by getting it done ahead, you know of any needed repairs, so you can save up before cold weather hits.

Furnace checks. Many companies run furnace check specials before they get busier during cold weather.

Home winter-preparation. Will you need supplies to ready your home for winter? Window plastic, weather stripping, caulk…? Make a list and watch for early sales. To save even more, check stores for clearance deals on leftover inventory from last year.

Summer goods. Speaking of clearance, hit all the clearance racks. This is a fabulous time to grab summer clothing, shoes, sandals, household goods, picnic supplies, pool supplies, outdoor sports and activities gear, and much more. There will still be some warm weather, so you can get some use out of them right away – and again next summer.

Cleaning supplies and cold medicines. Any products that help you clean and stay healthy; and products to help when you sickness strikes. Tissues, antibiotic wipes, hand sanitizer, and the like included. Don't wait until you need them and be forced to pay retail.

Seasonal produce. Buy now and freeze or can it. Not only is this the beginning of produce bargains, it's also prime time for sales on freezing and canning supplies.

“˜School' lunch and “˜winter' foods. This time of year is fun for the savvy shopper. Not only is produce a-plenty, but “˜school' type items continue to be on sale; such as granola bars, yogurt, fruit snacks, peanut butter and jelly, and so forth. Plus, stores start on “˜winter' foods, like soups, pastas, oatmeal and more. So brush off your coupon stash, and get back to saving!
