Fun and Safe Halloween Activities
This year, the experts say Halloween is a go! With children 12 years and older eligible for vaccinations, Halloween can be a blast for all! Here are our ways to stay safe and have a great candy-filled holiday with your kids.
Safe Trick or Treating
Scary masks or no, it’s important to wear a medical mask while trick-or-treating where advised. Also, if you’re going in a group, go in a small group and socially distance yourself from others. If you see one group ahead of you receiving candy, hang back and wait until they leave.
Also, to prevent the spread of germs in a candy dish, consider handing small pre-made goodies bags or pieces of candy to trick-or-treaters rather than using a communal candy bowl.
Don’t forget to get your flu shot prior to Halloween, too, to prevent any other transmissible illnesses.
Other Precautions
If it’s warm enough, sit outside and give the candy to trick-or-treaters rather than constantly opening your door to new people, which will expose your home’s interior to foreign germs.
Use hand sanitizer often and make sure to wear a mask while handing out candy.
Trunk or Treating
If you’re wanting to avoid Halloween altogether, or want to do something with fewer people, try trunk or treating with close family and friends. You can meet at a designated home and have the kids trunk or treat within your group.
Also, don’t forget about outdoor activities like pumpkin patches, corn mazes, haunted trails, or costume parades. Options like this are better for social distancing.
Alternatively, you could have a Halloween party indoors with the kids. Instead of trick or treating, you can make fun themed snacks, give your kids their favorite candy, watch fun holiday films, or have a virtual costume contest with their friends or family.
Remember, even though indoor activities might seem boring to some, with a little effort and creativity, your kids can still have a blast this Halloween.
Stay safe, and Happy Halloween!
