Enlightened Shopping Codes and Abbreviations

In the Enlightened Shopping list, you will see notations about where to get the coupons you need. This are the coupons found in the newspaper inserts (except All You).

Here are the most frequently used. (See below for a more complete list.)

COUPON SOURCES:

SS - SmartSource

RP - Red Plum

P&G - Proctor and Gamble

GM - General Mills 

All You - All You Magazine (purchase at Walmart or subscribe)

 DATES:

The date notations are in month, day form - for example (7/13) is July 13.

EXAMPLE:

(SS 7/13) would mean SmartSource coupon insert from July 13.

EXTRA WORDS:

If there was more than 1 SmartSource coupon insert from July 13, the  Enlightened Shopping list will indicate what is on the front page of the insert you are looking for.

EXAMPLE:

(SS 7/13 JC Penney) or (SS 7/13 Steak N Shake) JC Penney or Steak N Shake will be on the front cover of the insert from July 13.

Complete List of Abbreviations:

All You = Magazine full of manufacturer's coupons. Available exclusively at Wal-Mart or by subscription.

B&M = Brick and Mortar to indicate the deal is available at the actual store and not found online at the company's website.

B1G1 = Buy 1 get 1 FREE. This might be in the form of a coupon or a store sales offer.

B1G1F = Buy 1 get 1 FREE. This might be in the form of a coupon or a store sales offer.

B1G2 = Buy 1 get 2 free offers. (applies to B2G1 etc... too)

Blinkies = Coupons from the little Smartsource coupon machines found in stores.

BTFE = Box Tops for Education. This is a program that allows mainly schools to get 10 cents for each Box Top coupon that is clipped off of participating products, and turned in by the school.

C/O = Cash off. Coupons are also sometimes called cash offs as they allow you money off a product. (Could be listed as CO)

Catalina = A coupon that prints out of the Catalina machine at the checkout lane. Sometimes they are coupons to use later on a specific product. Most often they are good for "money off" your next shopping order. (Use like cash.)

CC = Custom Coupon. This is an advertised coupon offered at Meijer that prints from the Catalina machine. (Basically, it's a special Catalina deal Meijer sponsors or advertises).

CLFE = Campbells Labels for Education. Similar to BTFE. Schools collect product labels with UPC's to redeem for merchandise for the school.

Coupons.com = Coupon company that provides coupons online at www.coupons.com.

CRT = Cash register Tape. Often this abbreviation is applied towards rebate submission discussion.

DCRT = Dated cash register Tape.

DFP = Detroit Free Press.

ECB  =Extra Care Buck from the CVS store savings program. This is what CVS calls Catalinas.

ES = Enlightened Shopping

FAR = Free after Rebate

GC = Gift Card.

GM - General Mills - major manufacturer of items such as Cheerios, Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, & Green Giant. SmartSource sends out newspaper inserts from time to time with coupons for their products only.

GRP = Grand Rapids Press.

HT = Hang Tag - A coupon or offer found "hanging" on a product when purchased. (Often the coupon can be used right away at the register when making the purchase.)

MIR = Mail In Rebate

MM = Meijer MealBox - Coupons that are printed out from the Meijer Mealbox Website.

NED = No expiration Date. (How I wish I'd see this one more often!)

NLP = stands for No Longer Printable.

OAS = On any size... Shows that a coupon or offer is good for any size the product comes in.

OOP = Out of pocket. Usually refers to actual money handed over.

OYNO = On (or Off) your Next Order (or shopping trip) often used to refer to Catalina offers.

P/H or S/H = Postage and Handling or Shipping and Handling... indicates a fee that is to be paid. (Sometime listed as PH or SH)

P&G = Proctor and Gamble. Major product Manufacturer that has monthly coupon insert in most newspapers. Usually carried in the Grand Rapids Press and the Detroit Free Press.

Peelie = A coupon or offer found attached to a product when purchased. (Often the coupon can be used right away at the register when making the purchase.)

POP = Proof of Purchase ..the item(s) that the manufacturer is requiring to prove you actually purchased the item required for a rebate. Usually the UPC bar code that you must remove.

Printable = Also known as an internet coupon. A coupon printed from the internet.

Rebate = An offer by a store or a manufacturer for money back or a promotional gift. Rebates have a wide range of requirements for proof of purchase and may be submitted via the internet or by mail, depending on the rebate Terms and Conditions.

RP = Red Plum - Coupon insert (found in the newspaper) put out by the Valassis coupon company.

RR = Register Rewards ... this is the name Walgreens uses for Catalina coupons good on your next shopping trip.

SASE = Self Addressed Stamped Envelope.

SMP = Specially marked packages... item might have a peel off coupon or offer on the package.

SS = Smart Source - Coupon company. Provides newspaper coupon inserts, small in-store coupon machines, and printable coupons at www.smartsource.com.

Store Coupon = A coupon authorized and issued by a specific store. They are typically only redeemable at the issuing store chain. (Example: Walgreens coupons - redeemable only at Walgreens stores.) Coupons may be obtained via ads, special coupon/incentive brochures, the internet and more.

UPC = Universal product Code... the bar code found on almost every item that is scanned at the cash register. May also be called a proof of purchase.

WSL = While Supplies Last.

WT = Winetag... coupon or rebate promotion from adult beverage companies. May or may not require purchase of alcohol to redeem. Most common type is a coupon like "save $5 wyb case of beer and Lays Potato Chips" or "save $1 on any ham".

WYB = "When you buy". Indicated on offers that require multi-unit purchase. Example: Get $1 off when you buy 2.

YMV = Yours might vary...often used to say your store deal might vary from the posters.


The following may or may not be words that deal with savings. They tend to be more for general internet community talk.

BTW = By the Way.

DD = Dear Daughter or it is also now known as Dumpster Diving as well. Read the context of the message to figure it out. (Sometimes it really makes for an interesting post when you think it's Dear Daughter and they mean Dumpster Diving).
